Album Review: Katy B "Little Red"

Katy B
Little Red
Rinse.FM/Columbia
Katy B laid her whole life's story on the dancefloor for her debut record, 2011's "On A Mission". The underground production, aversion to making generic "let's drink-party and have sex" songs and powerful vocals made it stand out amongst her contemporaries and garnered her a Mercury Prize nom. So how do you outdo yourself on your follow-up when you've set it so high for yourself?

Katy B "5 AM" Music Video

The music video for Katy B's second 90s throwback single "5 AM" was released Monday. In it, the ginger-haired diva attends a dark and eerie masquerade party, where the dancing is shotty and Katy isn't amused. While it doesn't beat the "Fast and The Furious" themed visuals for "What Love Is Made Of," it's still effective enough. Hoping that this breaks the top ten and puts Katy's album promo back on the right track.

Katy B "5AM"

"What Love is Made Of" was a top forty hit but was quickly forgotten. While it was good, compared to the stuff on "On a Mission" and her "Danger" EP, it was kinda reductive, And the promo for this era has just been terrible. Good thing that isn't deterring her from putting out more singles as she premiered "5AM" today. I am feeling this!!! Like really feeling this! The song is what MKS "Flatline" would sound like if they weren't trying to be all Pitchfork friendly. Katy's vocals are spot on like always and the subject is a lot darker, takes us back to the territory of "Go Away" but more upbeat. Rinse, get on your grind. I don't want this alt dance gem to flop!

Katy B "What Love Is Made Of" Music Video

Alt-dance empress Katy B has come back stronger than ever with the first single from her second studio album. "What Love Is Made Of" takes Katy out of the clubs and continues the 90s dance track that was instilled when she released the "Danger" EP late last year. The video puts her on the streets with hardcore racers, drifters to be precise. This could have been an excellent tie-in with the new "Fast and The Furious" in the UK rather than that dreadful 2 Chainz and Wiz Khalifa record. Check the vid below!
