Porter Robinson
Worlds
Released August 12th 2014
Porter Robinson sheds the EDM coat that established him and pulls an Avicii-sized genre mash/shift in style with his debut LP "Worlds". Attempting to take the PLUR culture of raving and injecting a number of sedating agents in it, "Worlds" floats in an out of consciousness, with most of it being in the out sector. Tracks "Flicker", "Lionhearted" and Amy Milan feature "Divinity" hit the #bangerz sweet spot, showcasing the 22 year olds ear for a catchy melody and cleverness, but suffers from "20/20 Experience" syndrome in terms of track length, causing listeners to lose sight of what the album is strives to accomplish. Vocal features are crippled by overuse of vocoder and most of the LP rarely shifts into an area of legitimate interest save the aforementioned tracks. "Worlds" is an ethereal trip, albeit an underdeveloped one.
