"Hello Kitty" was the track I was most excited about hearing from "Avril Lavigne" because the snippet sounded amazing. But its insipid lyrics, fauxstep breakdown and Avril's use of the word kawaii was embarrassing, even for her, so I damned the song to Hell and never looked back...until now.
Thanks to the over exaggerated video paying homage her Japanese fans (who went out and bought over 100k of "Avril Lavigne"), l I now stan for the song low key. The funny thing about "Hello Kitty" is that its generating buzz in the places that it wasn't meant to thanks to the controversy of its portrayal of the Japanese. The song was only meant for a single release to her Asian demographic and now it could easily chart on the Hot 100 just from its streaming points (It was the #2 most viewed video on Vevo, beating out Katy Perry's gaudy "Birthday" clip). The power of the kitty...MEOW!
