Calvin Harris "Summer": It's A Yes From Me...
There are only two musical on this earth right now who can't seem to make a terrible song in my opinion. One of them is 2AM Club and the other is Adam Wiles (also known as Calvin Harris). The "18 Months" era spawned nine top ten hits in his native UK and finally gave him the worldwide recognition that had been evading him (or that he just didn't care about) since debuting in 2007. He's moving on and plans on delivering more singles for another upcoming LP, hopefully this year. The first offering comes in the form of "Summer",
which the Scotsman has been relentlessly teasing throughout the week via his Instagram account. Calvin's lyrical prowess is back in full force, opting for simple poem-like lyrics again ("We Found Love", "Flashback", "I'm Not Alone") and he's singing again!
When I met you in the summer, to my heartbeat sound
We fell in love, as the leaves turned brown
And we can be together baby, long as skies are blue
You act so innocent now, but you lied so soon
It's like a sequel to 2011's summer hit "Feels So Close". The song talks about a summer fling and how the Calvin is only willing to stay with her until the season has come to an end. There's sort of a melancholic feel when it approaches the end of the song, where a sound something like a foghorn permeates the air, but the replay value of the song just takes you back to the gripping feeling of the string section. The song does feel a bit artificial at times, like a label asked him to make another "hit" song and Calvin used the skeleton of his last collaboration, "Under Control" with Alesso and Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts, reproduced that stadium-quality breakdown and voila!. However, I feel that "Summer" marries elements from his last two LP's quite nicely and doesn't solely rely on the radio-friendly pop/EDM sound that has taken him from to the highest paid DJ in the world. #BuysummeroniTunes
