"Catallena" is one part Madonna's "Hung Up" one part T-ARA's everlasting song "Roly Poly" just enough sweet to not rot your ears off. Like "Lipstick" back in 2012, the tune from Middle Eastern/Indian culture, sampling the song The Great Big Punjabi Wedding's "Jutti Meri Jandiye". The bizarre video shows each of the girls represent a different piece of fish that keeps getting discounted until they are packaged as a 3 for 1 deal, until they are eventually enjoyed by themselves in human form at a sushi bar, then cry afterwards. The octopus (played by comedian Kim Dae Sung) represents the alluring Catellena girl that the lyrics discuss, as she is the most overpriced and coveted item in the restaurant, as we see when it rides past member Lizzy and she blushes.

Orange Caramel's "Catallena" Is Quite Fishy...
Orange Caramel have never done it for me personally. Their concepts have been too sugary sweet, cutesy or man-pining centric. It's a good thing that decided to change it up a tad for their third single, "Catallena".

But at the end of the video, she (the octopus) is the only one left. Some sort of deeper message? Maybe, but I don't have the time to try and take apart this video piece by piece. The concept is something I would expect from Japanese idol Kyary Pamyu Pamyu or newbies Crayon Pop, but not from the so-cute-it-hurts-to-watch threesome of Lizzy, Rania and Nana. Maybe the concept this time around is fresh?
