Graded Song: Rizzle Kicks "Lost Generation"

Rizzle Kicks, the singer/rapper duo from Brighton are prepping for their follow-up to 2011's "Stereo Typical". The boys are known for their early 90s hip-hop sound, but proved that they could get down with the top forty sound, as we saw with the success of "Mama Do The Hump," which peaked at #3 in the charts. "Lost Generation" (which may or may not be a Hemingway reference) is the first single from the album.
Structurally,  "Lost Generation" is just like their debut single, "Down With The Trumpets," but instead of advocating weed smoking, they are tackling more socially conscious topics over a horn filled instrumental. They take shots at the music industry, slut shaming, reality TV among other things. Harley's singing during the chorus "I've got my heart, I've found my soul" don't seem to match with the tone of the song however, making it a bit uneven. The most fun part of the song is when Jordan does the #trend part, then Harley follows up with a very forceful, yet lighthearted "watch yo' mouth son!" "Lost Generation" isn't anything new, but it isn't too old to call it boring, dated or calculated so that's a good thing at least.
Final Grade:B
