Graded Song:f(x) "Rum Pum Pum Pum"
Of all of SM's groups I think f(x) is my least favourite. Their songs have never really appealed to me from the poppy "Hot Summer" to the 2NE1 b-side "Electric Shock" released last summer. However, after the girls released that hipster teaser a few days ago for their "Pink Tape" album, I was genuinely interested in what was to come. The title track from the album "Rum Pum Pum Pum" sounds like it should be the follow-up to the Rihanna flop "Man Down".
"Rum Pum Pum Pum" has this funky meets Middle Eastern thing going on. The structure is kinda of jarring, especially in the second verse when Amber raps and then Sulli raps and sounds like she's messes up, curses, and they cut it short. The chorus is the strongest point of the song, where the girls all sing in unison almost seductively claiming they will pierce their love interests heart and grow (sounds like a parasite/host thing to me).
Final Grade:B-
The music video is quite similar to "Electric Shock" with the very bright sets, basic choreography and bizarro fashion choices. I wish SM would give them some more intricate moves, especially during the breakdown where some twerking would have done some wonders. You can also watch the M! Countdown comeback stage below!
