Graded Song: Kate Nash "3AM"

This comes as quite as surprise. Kate Nash has proven that she never follows the same blueprint twice. After her depressing-yet-happy pop album, "Made of Bricks", giving us the sunny pop tune "Foundations" (thank you VH1 for that one). She went on and switched up her style by taking influence from 60s Motown girl bands with 2010s "My Best Friend is You," which spawned such spectacular cuts like "Doo Wah Doo" and the astounding "Later On." She was quiet until late summer when she surprised fans and critics by rocking a Bindi, dyeing her hair two different shades and releasing Riot Grrrl music like the "Under-Estimate The Girl" and "Death Proof." After this change in musical direction, I was scared. I liked Nash enough to give this new sound of hers a try, but I didn't think I could endure too much of it. Kate is gearing up to release her third album, "Girl Talk" in March and will be proceeded by her brand new single, "3AM." The question is, how does the girl sound? Thankfully, Kate has somehow meshed the sound from her debut album with a more upbeat 90s alternative rock/dance sound. She even gives us that breathtakingly sweetness in her voice that we missed so much. The message of the song is far from sweet, as she pleas to an ex-lover of some sorts. However, it would have been interesting though if she had incorporated a Riot Grrrl type break down in the song. This sounds more like a album cut rather than a single, much like "Doo Wah Doo" was.

Final Grade:A
