Album Review: Example "Live Life Living"

Live Life Living
Epic Records

"Playing In The Shadows" was the darkest that Example has been and unless he hits rock bottom, he will ever be. "The Evolution of Man" was the less appreciated sequel, telling the tale of a man on the mend. "Live Life Living" is the third and final chapter of the trilogy: one of reintegration living life to the fullest, but dangerously straddling the line that started the trilogy, as heard on "Take Me As I Am".

"Live Life Living" is one bloated ode to the varied landscape of 90s era dance music, not just the earlier part of the decade ruled by Robin S. and SNAP!-esque club jams. "One More Day"  (it's also the highest charting song from the project to date) is one of those songs, where Elliot beckons to the call of his mate to stay one more day longer. "Ten Million People" is "One More Day" after the relationship has reached the engagement/marriage phase, infused with jungle style plinks and plunks thanks to the production hand of Fraser T. Smith, a no brainer as a future single. Opening track "Next Year" and "At Night" are Chemical Brothers homages while Fatboy Slim's presence is also on the title track. "Live Life Living" isn't as ambitious. The lack of rapping on the record is disappointing, though Example can carry a tune and the A&R person handling the record shouldn't made the two blandest songs on the record ("All The Wrong Places", "Kids Again") singles and discouraged listeners who were looking for the next "CTWYKM". It won't put him back at the top of the charts, but "Live Life Living" is enough to put him back in the good graces of the music consuming public and pleasing his die hard fans.
