Troye Sivan "Happy Little Pill" (Updated)

Australian actor and YouTuber Troye Sivan put fans in frenzy a when he announced he was releasing his debut self-titled EP in August. Being the person that he is, Troye shared the full audio to the first single, "Happy Little Pill" two days before its official release date.

Troye wrote on his Tumblr that he wrote "Happy Little Pill" 'during a bit of a rough time for someone super close to me, and for myself... My radar is pointing to fellow YouTuber Connor Franta, who recently left super YouTube channel Our2ndLife for personal reasons, which include a battle with depression. The "Happy Little Pill" in the song seems to be referring to anti-depressants, so if it is about Franta, that's really sweet, especially since they are shipped together hard any way.
"HLP" reminds me of a Lorde song, with a dash of. Lyrically it's brilliant and well put together, I see "Gucci down the boulevard" being the next big catch phrase since "turn down for what". I did want Troye to take it a few octaves higher during the chorus, but that's being nitpicky.

Troye shows his dark brooding side in the official clip, with shots of him overlooking the beach, a lesbian couple making out heavily in a pool and. The blue and purple and white background scenes are tasteful (and distracting in a good way) to say the least, but what was up with the owl and lizard? I'm pretty sure you Troye fans can explain it to me.

  1. Seeing as it's months later, you might already know this, but Troye confirmed on a podcast that the song is NOT about a youtuber.
